Luis Miguel’s Labios de Miel (Honey Lips) has already gone to number one in several Latin American countries with its digital release on Monday August 2. The song is an upbeat, well orchestrated triumph that fans of Luis Miguel have fallen in love with over night. LALATE believes it’s the best Latin single this month, and one of the best this year.
The single which doesn’t get worldwide rollout until September 14 is the number 1 digital download in Mexico. It follows up 60 million records sold by the Luis Miguel over a 28 year nonstop career. Miguel will support the single’s release with a three date performance at Casesars Place in conjunction with Mexican Independence Day celebrations September 15, 16, 17 and 18.
Miguel’s first album was at age 12. He was the first to have a Spanish-language album (Romances, 1997) debut in the top positions of the Billboard Top 200. In April, Miguel was reported to have been hospitalized in Cedar Sinai hospital in Los Angeles causing an immediate concern across the latin music community in Los Angeles, even prompting hit radio station SuperEstrella (107.1) to do an extended on air tribute and report about his condition and updates. The cause of his hospitalization was never disclosed.
